Details

From the archive. This one’s gone to a new pressing table. A square clapper pieced like the quilt block it is: walnut and maple triangles meeting point-to-point in a full star, corners squared off in dark walnut, every seam a real glue line between real pieces of wood. At the center, a turned knob of maple burl — the handle — so you can set the block down square on an intersection and lift it away without sliding it across your fabric.

The square format is made for block work: where a long clapper walks a seam, this one parks on a pressed intersection or a stubborn bulk of seam allowances and holds it flat while it cools. Sanded to 320 grit, edges eased so they never mark fabric, sole left bare to drink the steam.

This exact star is sold, but the pieced star is the shop’s signature — use the request button and we’ll piece one for you in the woods you like.
