Spalting this dense is a lucky find: the maple is covered edge to edge in black tracery, and the plain walnut band through the center is there to give your eye somewhere to rest. The close-up photos are worth a look — every inch of this top reads like a drawing.

Like every clapper on this bench, it’s built in two layers: a hard maple base under the figured top, weighted so the mass — not your arm — sets the seam while it cools. Sanded to 320 grit, edges eased so they never mark fabric, sole left bare to drink the steam. You’re buying this exact clapper — the photos are the piece.
